Os Talk / Re: New Operating System
« Last post by dalek on December 10, 2014, 06:57:08 AM »
As someone who has dealt with all those OS's, I can tell you that you won't come up with anything simpler.  If you plan to make a desktop OS that is really simple, you won't have java, flash or anything which means most websites will be useless.  Java, flash and such requires a lot of a OS to be able to function.

If I were you, I'd just find the simplest and easiest to maintain distro and use it.  Trying to invent a OS from scratch would take many many years and a lot of work.  It's not something one person or even a really small group of people can do.

Just my thoughts.
Os Talk / New Operating System

I am looking for someone to help me develop a new operating system, something that is not Windows, Mac or Linux but something new. the problems I see is Windows costs to much you cant modify it and has problems, mac is to constricting and expensive in both the OS and software as well it will only run on Apple hardware without modification. and Linux although it is free it lacks support and is simply not designed for a very basic user. (my opinion) I want something that is inexpensive, easy to use and well supported all in one. and i simply do not have the time or knowledge to do something like an operating system.

I would like to make two versions a basic version that would be free and a pro version that would cost anywhere from $5.00-$10.00 USD

If anyone is interested in helping please email me at:

yes it is desired ...

u can try Zencafe GNU/Linux its a desktop Linux distribution designed specifically for public Internet cafés. Based on Slackware and Zenwalk Linux, it includes auto-recovery features, Internet café billing and management software, and other graphical system administration tools. Zencafe's default edition uses Xfce as the main desktop, while its "Lite" edition, designed for older or less powerful computers, installs the IceWM window manager.
Linux Servers Support / Re: service vpnserver does not support chkconfig

Please make sure the file vpnserver is created in /etc/init.d. The file should be started with # without any empty line above.
Function of “chkconfig -add” is add the service to auto start only. You can do that by adding a command for starting service in rc.local.

Here is how to fix this:

(Assume the name of my script is myscript)

1 – Copy your script into /etc/init.d folder
2 – cd /etc/init.d
3 – chmod +x myscript
4 – Add these lines, including #, right after #!/bin/bash or #!/bin/sh:

# chkconfig: 2345 95 20
# description: Some description
# What your script does (not sure if this is necessary though)
# processname: myscript

5 – chkconfig –level 2345 myscript on
Linux Proxy Server Support / Failure Ratio at 1.38
« Last post by rajesh.bahl on November 10, 2014, 05:42:14 AM »
Dear Experts,

My  squid proxy server is working okay apparently. However I often observe the following error in /var/log/squid/cache.log:-

Failure ratio is at 1.38 ( this value also varies )
Going to Hit-Only mode for 5 minutes .......

This keeps repeating after some time.
I tried searching in Squid FAQs. where it is written as this issue arises from parent cache. I wish to confirm that We have ONLY ONE squid proxy server in the entire network.

Can some one help in resolving the issue, please ?
