Title: No audio in Toshiba Satellite A40 running Mandrake 10.0
Post by: Opus62 on August 24, 2004, 07:26:03 AM
[please forgive any ignorance, as I am a Linux newbie]

I recently installed Mandrake 10 in my Toshiba Satellite A40 laptop computer and everything seems to be coming together fine, except for the sound. The sound chip was not detected at all. My laptop uses a SoundMAX chip
When I try to configure the sound system I get the following error:

  Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

Nothing I try seems to work. Any assistance would be appreciated by this old Windows user
