Redhat cant find hardrive

I have a Asus P4P800 DE mother boared with a seagate harddrive.

When i try to instal RedHat it says it cannot find my harddrive and i have no idea why any help would be appreciated

need anything else to help?

Well .. it is strange.. r u sure it is detected at bios level ? I mean is it giving any probs with Other OS ? also try to use any live CD of linux like Slackware Live or Knoppix and tell us that if it also giving error with it ?

I am really new to linux so im not sure what that is but i partitioned my 80g harddrive for 40 g for windows Xp pro (works fine) and 40g fro linux but linux cant find my harddrive.

Well.. Live Linux distributions are those linux OS which don't need to be installed on HD for running, You can run them directly from a CD. I adviced you to use any of them to confirm that it is not your hardware problem.

i tried slax and it didnt wanna work im not sure if i burnt it right or not it just decided not to load so im gonna try it again tonight.  IF it was hardware would Xp still work?

You are right.. but I again wanna say here that may be it is some compatibility issue that Redhat cannot work with some specific HD. BTW this is first time I hv ever heard HD not detecting issue otherwise I think RedHat has the widest hardware support, even far better than winXP ;)
So if you try any other linux distribution then it will clear that it is Redhat , not the hardware.

If it still doesnt work, trying turning on the LBA mode off. This can be done by confuring ur BIOS. Also when installation try to turn it off first.


If this doesn't help try to set LBA mode in BIOS to "ON" and install using that LBA option.
