Title: Internet connection sharing
Post by: speedygarth on July 02, 2010, 08:25:24 AM
hi i`m trying to connect an adsl modem to a linux machine which runs on ubuntu server 9.04, the modem has two ports (one for usb conection to the pc and the other is an rj45 jack) i tried to connect it yesterday and the internet led turned red while the ethernet one was okay.
i`m sure it must be about the drivers, the cd that came with the modem does not have any help on installing it on linux.
is there a command or commands that i should use to configure the modem and share the internet connection from the new server?
what aditional hardware should i have?
sorry i`m still new to linux, i`ve been trapped in windows for years!!

first of all try to ping your adsl IP and see what happens does the packet transfer happens

if have successful pinging you can open the browser and type the ip address to see the administrative panel of your adsl to further configure
