Post by: luk4ang on November 13, 2009, 07:12:56 AM
Hi everyone, always good to be on this site.

Here is my scenario - I am trying to load Linux on a new machine using an external DVD writer with Ubuntu 8.04 DVD.
The machines goes through POST no problems, but after then get stuck where it says "Boot from CD:" with cursor flashing, it doesn't give me a "Press any key to continue" it just hang there, even pressing keys doesn't do anything. - How do I get pass this stage, cause this is frustrating.Anyone ideas what needs to done? Thanks in advance.

Could you try another live CD? pen drive?

Could you give more details on the machine specs? With the little information you give, the problem can go from a bad cd, to unsupported hardware, bad drive, etc...

Thanks Pedro, that was resolved.
I found that the external drive itself wasn't working so I used a different drive and has installed successfully. Thanks for your effort.
