Title: system standby

i recenilty download ubuntu linux, a great debian based system, i have the whole system configured to what i want expect i can't get the system to go into standby.  on the gdm login screen there is an option for it, but it doesnt work.  any ideas? thanks!

You must see that the power management from the bios is turned on in the kernel. Linux uses the amp command to do standby & suspend. See that both are installed..
