not a valid block device means, ur usb stik is not connected correctly sometimes. I got the same error in my Knoppix when I used my 32mb stick , pretty old.

OK dear,

change ur USB port, Reconnect ithe USB drive ,mind it do all these in ur command prompt only

When u connect it to ur port then automatically it detects the driver which it will show on the screen
So i think ur USB port is not ok change it, or give this commnd
#mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
may be it mounted on /dev/sda2

After that it will work
Enjoy
