It lets you to do more with linux with its clean and neat interface !

Do you hope linux can use easiler ,like windows?
in fact ,to linux has many kinds of user,if it can easy be learning  and using,it will be more pop ,especially in desk using !
windows os has mang fault,but we must admit it is very friendly to us!

  mandrake ,to us ,like a gate coming into linux world!
  but i will find a chance to use others distribution!
 by the way, i think redhat is good creation  ,but it is more focuing the
net service! to me ,it is far away a litte!

   I still prefer Slackware as well, the OS is clean, simple, and build solid. Everything in there is really stable and really good in quality. Not even a scar in it when i run the applications.

   What i have done with my Slackware:
1. DHCP Server,
2. Backup Server,
3. DNS Server,
4. Router,
5. Software Development (CVS Server, Client app deployment)
6. Testing new features in kernel (It's really raw kernel from kernel.org) and many open source apps).

Lastly, software installation/removal is piece a cake man, just use installpkg, removepkg.

U can even download these packages which are supported from the net using "swaret".

And lately, wow, im doing encrypted filesystem (Loop-AES) and LTSP clients. All i need to do is just use what i have.

but i want to say this clean linux is hard to learn to newer!

newer need more help and convenient!

if one day i become power likely you,i do use  Slackware!

but now i am very weak! so i need mandrake!

in a word ,if linux want to become normal os for normal people,

   It's better to start early rather than to start late right?

  I'm not so powerful yet. I'm just an average user only right now.

I used before mandrake and fedora. Well, i ur into multimedia and home user type, it's cool.

However, if u really want to learn linux, don't let the GUI pamper you.

Of course, when i first learn to use Slackware, i suffer a lot. But all these sufferings make me learn more and more.

Try using "vmware" and learn to test around ur linux. I believe u can test the craziest things without hurting ur real system. U will learn very fast. Cheers

I feel Gentoo is the best. You compile everything from scratch andin the process learn a lot.

   My experience on installing it wuz quite painful. I do agree that it can help u learn a lot. For noobes i think it's a bit overkilling.

   When i wuz a noobe, it's quite scary. Very time consuming. That's just what i can't afford. Of course, for fun, it's cool

   For power and stability and easy to mess around with networking and programmiing stuffs, i still have passion for Slacky

Gentoo do have it's popularity in Gaming

Gentoo could be painful if the net connection is slow. As I had a lease line it was quite good.

Hi everyone,

Thank's for the message post.My first experience was with mandrake, this was version 6.0. I was new to Linux, but i knew enough.I would alway's have a problem with it,like getting a sound card to work or a modem to work,or boot problems.

When i got rid of mandrake and installed Red Hat everything in my system worked just fine even my zip drive with no hassle.I stayed with Red Hat.

I don't know much about the other Distros though i hear they are really getting better.

Well i did that, try all the distros as much as possible. Call me nuts but i love to install linux and play will all the systems.

Me too,actually i want to try these newer version's.I'm also kind'a curious about the new version of Sun Solaris 10(x86)I called a friend of mine to download it though a cable connection and burn it to a disk for me.

So far, i still favor slack as it's really clean, simple and solid. Not a source i can't compile using a Slack.
