I'm Try to reinstall mandrake 10 for proxy server but can't start service squid.
i'm download "squid-2.5.STABLE4-1.4.100mdk.i586.rpm"
and user  rpm -ivh squid.xxx. it's completed

#service squid start
Stopping squid: /etc/init/d/squid: line 147 1927 Aborted   (core dumped)  $SQUID -k check > /dev/null 2>&1
                                              [FAILED]

init_cache_dir /var/spool/squid... /etc/init.d/squid: line 147: 1930 Aborted (core dumped) $SQUID -z -F 2 >/dev/null

Starting  squid:                                [ ok ]

#ps -ax | grep squid

1936   tty1 R    0:00  grep  squid

give the last few lines of your /etc/cache.log !
