I'm working on this too.  I'm missing x-java-vm.  Everything else seems to be working.  If I find a fix, I'll post it.

It most certainly does.
What is Gaim?
Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM (Oscar and TOC protocols), ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and Zephyr networks.

Well actually Yahoo made some changes and you have to upgrade to 0.71 for it to work.  That is what I run into.  I can't upgrade because of the depenacies and I'm on a slow dial-up.  I can't see downloading files for a couple of days for one program.  Yes, I also downloaded a source file and tried to compile the thing.  Dependancies again.

I found this out from other forums that were panicing because it would not log them in.

Of course I can't get anything to work on this Mandrake 9.2.  It's so new and they haven't made it a rpm yet.  If it is not on the CD you're stuck.

I also downloaded the program from Yahoo and I can't get it to work.  I think some of the problem is I don't know how to use IM of any kind.  I have never even seen it work.

Computer nut that don't know how to use IM.  Plum crazy.  Oh well, If I were using windoze I wouldn't use it anyway because of the bugs crawling around.

Oh well, better luck next time.  I'll try it in Gentoo next time I need to reboot.  That may be a few weeks though.

Well! Have you tried the RH8 version of yahoo??

Well there is also one which is gtk based..
I suppose that newer dependencies are backward compatible ie. if you r using old program on newer dependencies it less likely to cause problem.

Well try gyach...

I'm in Gentoo trying to update the portage and install Gaim.  It's been working on it for about 10 hours now.  This thing better be awesome.  I been wanting to do this anyway but this is taking way to long.

I should have went and bought a ethernet cable and went to the ISP and plugged this puppy in.  That would be faster than this crap.

Well, if you (or anyone else) knows
of a WORKING yahoo chat client, for the chat-rooms,
let me know...

I have tried EACH and EVERY one of them....

Gyach DOES NOT work.... I've tried installing it
on RedHat 8 and 9, didn't work...
I've tried installing it on both SuSE 8.2 ad 9,
it didn't work.... and tried BOTH, the regular 0.9.6
version and the new 'enhanced' version....

So again, if there is a (real) working version out
there, let us know...
