Create a link on Desktop

Hi, there.
Anybody can tell me how to create a link on Desktop?
When I use cp -l source /usr/usrname/Desktop
There is a error message that"omitting source" shows.

If you don't want to go too deep then simply right click on desktop and explore urself.. u will find the option to create link on desktop for any application.
