Hello friends!!

I have a problem in my linux installation. i have 40 GB hard disk
in that i have made a 2GB FAT32 primary partition while leave the other space unpartitioned.
In that free 2GB space i have not any OS. when i boot from linux to install linux
then the screen stops at the following position.
partition check :
hda :
and the cursor blinks and the screen stops there.
i am using the redhat linux distributions 7.3 and 8.0. in both distributions
the same problem occurs but when i boot from linux 7.0 then it surprisingly
boots normally. Some body says me that there is a problem in my hard disk
partition table if yes then how could i solve my problem

Yah.. it could be problem of incorrect partition table , you can try latest distro as 8 is also now old

, Secondly try to use any latest LIVE CD, like knoppix, I use Slackware LIVE to correct various probs when I found my system unbootable..( it is my usual habit to make system unbootable while doing some experiments with newer and newer OS. ) so you can boot from live CD and then by using fdisk like utilities you can delete ur all partition then create newly freshed with proper scheme, btw.. BB code don't work in heading etc

Sir,
i have format my hard disk and make a primary partition of 2GB while
all the other space is unpartitioned. OK i will now delete the partition and make new partitions
if i use the latest distribution like redhat linux 9.0 then it could solve the problem or not. some body has told me to format the hard disk and boot from the windows 2000 bootable cd and make partition from there. it will definitely correct the problem what is you opinion about it

use simple partitioning scheme like one primary partition and other logical partition like the windows scheme ie.. logical partition are part of extended DOS partition. it will correct ur problem..
