I cant open the samba server through the GUI

Dear Linuxers,

Till the last 10 day'sI can easily open the samba server through the GUI by going to :

Start menu-->system settings-->server settings-->samba server

but after I opend  through the console the Redhat-config-samba file inorder {JUST} to look the contents of the file(NOTHING MODIFIED OR CHANGED IN THE FILE) since then I am not able any more to open it through the GUI inspite of the fact the I provide the root password that enables me to start the basic services in general but stil the samba server window do not open. So if any one of you knows what is the reason behind that or experienced in the past such a situation may can help me or advice me how to solve this case.

any advice or tip will be highly appreciated

I want to kno that what type of prob u r facing.. ie.. is it not opening.. ? or it opens but not completely and get crashed ?

How did u close the console? Did u terminate it or just suspend it? If u suspend it.

How about trying to type the command: "redhat-config-samba" to execute it in root access.

Alternatively, u can use Webmin to configure samba instead.

Hallo dragoncity,

I open the RedHat-config-samba under the root console,and that means only under the SU such file could be opened ,because if I open it under mijn usersname I get a messege that only under the root this can be opened .
The second important thing,I didn't edited or changed anything in the file,
then I closed the file with the command exit, afterwards or let me say the next day I wasn't able to open the Samba server through the GUI inspite of the fact that every time I got prompted to provide the root password.

Now I hope that you got an idea about the way how I opened ebn closed the RedHat-config-samba file.

Are u using vi editor? U use command exit to close the file?

1. Check whether samba service is running or not?

2. Check ur user account have enough privilege to open samba gui. U need an admin privilege to do so. So, u might want to change ur normal user account to do so.

3. If something is not right with ur user account, my suggestion is to delete the user account and recreate a new one. Or u can do the hard way that is:

Login as root, change directory to that particular user's
home directories which have login error. For example
[root@diskless root]# cd /home/leon

At here you will require to delete few hidden directory,
[root@diskless leon]# rm -rf .gconf
[root@diskless leon]# rm -rf .gconfd
[root@diskless leon]# rm -rf .gnome
[root@diskless leon]# rm -rf .gnome_private
[root@diskless leon]# rm -rf .gnome2
[root@diskless leon]# rm -rf .gnome2_private
