Detection of soundcard

Hey all  i m using REHL5 os. My soundcard is working fine in windows but dnt detected in linux. I install vlc player with all the dependencies . Video is coming but no sound is there. And when i test the speakers from sound detection tool it doesnt give any sound. However when i work on console in gui mode and pressed left and right key it is prodecing sound. Please help me in sorting out this problem.

I guess I need to get RHEL for testing purpose.
Tried "sndconfig" ?

Try it as root.

If that doesn't work then look if you card is supported by ALSA

You have not mentioned what sound chip you have. Look here:

Card is detected in there. You should check your mixer settings. See if sound is not muted.

hey i checked the mixer settings but no sound is muted still it is not giving any sound..................

You have to install Alsa driver.
Download it from site, it comes with installation instruction, follow them and tell me how it is.
If it is already there then you can find it about, give me output of following :
