Huawei ETS2556 connection problem in Ubuntu Gutsy

(1/1)

EvilBrain:
Help!!! I can't connect to the internet using my Huawei ETS2556 CDMA phone.

Its connected via a USB cable and works fine in XP but Ubuntu doesn't even detect the modem!
I already tried "sudo wvdialconf" with no results. Instead I got this:

"Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.

Sorry, no modem was detected!  Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?"

I'm a 10 day linux veteran (i.e. newbie) so any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Ricky:
Interesting.. never used Huawei ETS2556 ...
Did you see manufacturer site for modem driver for linux ?

EvilBrain:
Its a fixed wireless terminal (FWT) cdma phone.
The Huawei website is completely useless and I tried googling it but got nothing.
I've been stuck using windows until I can get online in Linux. Besides manually downloading all those dependencies is a serious pan in the ass.
Please help.

Ricky:
Can you try some other LIVEcd and see if it is being detected on it !

EvilBrain:
I haven't tried another livecd but Ive just heard from someone who has the same problem with Fedora.
