Can I install Open SUSE 10.2 in my system?
« on: July 09, 2007, 06:10:31 PM »
Hello,

I have a doubt on whether I can install open SUSE 10.2 OS in my system. My system configuration is as follows:

Intel Pentium 4 with HT technology - 1GB DDR Ram - 2.8 GHz processor - 40GB fully devoted to linux hard disc - 32 bit processor

The main criteria for my doubt is that the processor architecture of SUSE is being i586, whereas in my windows XP it uses i386.  Whether the processor architecture would be a criteria for the compatibility of the OS to work in a system? Also, please explain about the need for processor architecture.

Thank you in advance.

I do not have info that what exactly made them to classify processor as i686 or i586 etc.

Thing is that, processor after p3 all are better than i686 but have backward compatibility too. These terms are used for intel based chips or compatible chips.

So in short, it should run on your PC & it will !
