Kernel Problem take it seriously

Hello Friends

 Yesterday I shut down my pc when today i start it
 It gives me following error.
 kernel panic error no init= found
 i boot it from linux rescue
 It doesn't showing me my boot loader i.e. No LILO as well as Grub
 i observed there is no lilo.conf file in /etc/ and no grub.conf in /etc/grub/
 I can't understand how it possible
 I try to install lilo or grub but i failed to install it
 I try to run command install lilo
 it gives no lilo to install
 So friends pls tell me what can i do
 I can't understand why such type of problem occurs
 its too much important to recover that system
 Help me ! Help me !

grub configuration file is located in /boot/grub etc.  not in /etc..

anyways.. what error you get when u run
Code: [Select]
grub-install /dev/hda

Hi
 My machine having lilo which is under /etc/ as lilo.conf
 I have the error
 kernel panic, attempt to kill init !!!
 The above sentence is blinking when it is on screen

Did u change the lilo.conf file. Can u show the contents of the file?

Please show all the files listed under /boot directory

Check ur kernel. R u using the default linux kernel?


Did u recompile the kernel?

Please state ur linux distro and ur kernel version.

I am back again, srry didn't ans. any questions from the last 1 month, as i was busy in the project...
ok leave it...

Now lets talk bt ur question:

Kernel Panic error comes in many circumstances......

1. When u recompile the kernel.. ,& u haven't enabled support for ext3 in that recompilation
2. By mistakenly ur initrd image files deleted
3.or May be u r using  SATA drives...
4. or Last it may be possible that u have by mistakenly deleted files under /boot.

May be that above 4 lineswill help u
