lease line between two linux box

hi all

iam having two linux box with RH9 installed. Now i want to connect both
with the lease line modem. I have connected the modems to each linux box and also connected rj11 from one modem to the other. Now to configure the modem and pppd.
can this possiable

Why you have connected one modem to another ?

I am not getting, please explain in other words.
