There is no specific answer..
you can set your Hds to use DMA. but it is mainly enabled by default.

Secondly increase your RAM.

Thirdly.. don't use too many application altogether..

in addition to it in all the files there are information regarding the access is updated . u can change this feature by putting 'noatime' in /etc/fstab whre it mounts the filesystems .

Consider using text mode applications only?  :lol:

And make sure u stop those irrelevant services during runtime. This will help too. ;)
