Hi
I have installed Red Hat 9 on intel 810 and Cmedia 8738 audio
but problem is that when i try to play any ogg vorbis or any test sound whole system freezes
plz help me

What for other types of sound.. and what audio player you are using ? also r u sure your cmedia has be configured properly by linux ? if not the give the out put of
cat /proc/pci

thanks i will post the data of ur command soon but my red hat plays audio cds fine.I use XMMS fro playing ogg vorbis but it freezes also when i play test sound it freezes i try to issue the command sndconfig but when playing test sound comes system freezes I have doownloaded latest c media drivers but after unzipping i dont know how to run them there is a makefile and c file and config.in file but i dont know what to do plz also tell how to install and run various formats like tar bunzip gz etc thanks

ok if there is the "makefile" there try giving the command
make
this will complie the driver....
then give "as root"
make install
if there is any configure in the directory first of all remember to give
./configure

Sumit.. after that. it is clear that it is not the driver problem.. it is simply software prob.. as Redhat has removed the mp3 support from XMMS in RH9 then i u should have tried to intall that in ur machine and that has messed up all. Try to install mplayer and then play from that.. then tell us.. Also remove xmms rpm and install latest from internet.. may be that help..

can u tell me the best source on the net to learn " RHL 9" one more thing after running "make" command in downloaded cmpci drivers it says make target not specified but there is a makefile
make install says this thing too ./configure says bash bad command demystify them Also what is the name of the utility thru which i can see linux partition in windows 98

even after installing new xmms -1.2.9 im not able to play ogg vorbis or mp3 .Audio cds r playing fine by xmms ,cd player im not able to understand y the system is crashing when i try to play ogg or mp3 help
